My recommendation is to stay far away from dentists as well as any other type of doctors.
I haven't been to a dentist in maybe about 6 years and I have no problems with my teeth. Another important thing to also remember is to never us toothpaste with fluoride. I have been using homemade coconut oil toothpaste for quite some time now and my teeth are fine. It is easy to make:
